My name is Kristi Ross-Clausen and I’m a “retired” teacher, long time IATSE master stagehand, AEA stage manager, and SME for AV and entertainment safety. I teach folks how to do a variety of technical theater and AVL things safely, in an age appropriate manner. I’m a licensed teacher pre-K-12 in the state of Wisconsin through WI-DPI. I’m also an ad hoc lecturer at several universities and colleges. I’m an AVIXA Certified Technical Specialist (and item writer) and have both the Certified Quality Technician and Certified Quality Designer from the Association for Quality in Audio-Visual. In short, I know what I know and love to teach it, If I don’t know it, I can refer you to someone who does or help you find the answer online. I do not know it all – that’s simply impossible – but I’m great at explaining technical things in a way you can understand and use the information.
This web site gives info so you can learn a little about me and contact me. I don’t sell anything here.
Some good resources are shared because there aren’t many places to find reliable info on these topics, however YOU are always responsible for how you use the content of the resources and assume all risk. There are an almost infinite number of varieties of venues out there, so there’s no way I can predict what you are encountering nor know your abilities. If you are not 100% certain you are doing it correctly and safely, don’t to it! People get hurt like that.
The photo with me leaning over the shoulder of the girl sitting down? That’s Tasha Schuh who fell through an open trap and became quadriplegic because of it. People get killed when we do things the wrong way. I’m trying to stop that. She’s why I started learning about theater safety from folks like Dr Randall Davidson and Monona Rossol.

I’m still a licensed K-12 teacher, so I limit contact with folks of that age range to recorded media (email, zoom) or in-person meetings with others present. I do this for the student’s safety and my own protection. If you are of that age, please DO feel free to contact me, but let me know your age or school grade, as that also helps me get you the right resources. I love helping students learn and have mentored many into careers in the AVL and performing arts industries.
